You're Not Tired, You're Starved for Light.

Imagine it's February. The sun sets before you leave work. The sky has been grey for weeks. You're getting enough sleep, but you're still dragging. Your mood is flat. Your energy is low. You find yourself craving warmth, brightness, anything that doesn't feel like another cold, dark Shropshire afternoon.

This isn't laziness. It's biology.

Your body needs sunlight to regulate circadian rhythms, produce Vitamin D, and maintain serotonin levels. When you're not getting enough, especially during the darker months, your system starts to shut down. You feel sluggish, irritable, and disconnected. Not because you're doing anything wrong, but because your environment isn't giving you what you need.

The Sun Room fixes that.

Floatation therapy at Shropshire Floats

How The Sun Room Works

Every treatment at Shropshire Floats has a purpose. No gimmicks, no filler. Each one works differently, but they all point in the same direction - helping you recover, reset, and feel like yourself again.

You Get The Good Stuff:

  • Visible light that signals your brain it's daytime (regulating your circadian rhythm and boosting alertness)
  • Infrared warmth that penetrates your skin (similar to lying in the sun on a warm day)
  • The wavelengths that trigger Vitamin D production in your skin

You Skip The Bad Stuff

  • UVA and UVB radiation (the rays that cause sunburn, skin damage, and aging)
  • Unpredictable weather
  • The need to strip down and freeze in a British garden hoping the sun breaks through

It's not a tanning bed. It's not a heat lamp. It's as close to lying on a beach in the Seychelles as you can get without a passport, and you can do it year-round, whatever the weather.

What Sunlight Therapy Supports

Mood & Energy
(Especially During Winter)

If you struggle with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), or even just the "winter blues," the Sun Room is one of the most effective non-pharmaceutical interventions available.

Bright light exposure increases serotonin production (the neurotransmitter associated with mood regulation) and suppresses melatonin during the day (so you're alert when you should be, not drowsy at your desk). The result is a noticeable lift in mood, energy, and motivation, usually within a few sessions.

Many of our clients book regular Sun Room sessions from November through March just to stay functional during the darker months.

Vitamin D Production
(Especially During Winter)

Vitamin D deficiency is widespread in the UK, especially during winter. It's not just about bone health, Vitamin D supports immune function, mood regulation, muscle strength, and inflammation control.

The Sun Room's light spectrum triggers natural Vitamin D synthesis in your skin, the same way outdoor sunlight would. It's not a replacement for supplementation if you're severely deficient, but it's a powerful tool for maintenance and support.

Skin Health
(Without the Damage)

Controlled light exposure can support skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne by reducing inflammation and promoting healing, without the UV damage that accelerates aging.

The infrared warmth also increases circulation to the skin, supporting collagen production and giving you that "post-holiday glow" without the sunburn.

Your Sun Room Session

The Setup You have the room to yourself (or share it with up to two friends if you're booking a package). The space is warm, lit brightly, and designed to feel like a quiet escape. There's ambient ocean waves in the background.

You can sit, lie down, read, nap, or just soak in the warmth. Most people close their eyes and drift.

The Session: Sessions last 60 minutes. You'll feel the warmth on your skin within minutes. Most people describe a deep sense of relaxation. The kind you get after spending a day at the beach, minus the sand and travel.

After: You'll leave feeling lighter, brighter, and more awake. If you've been struggling with low mood or winter fatigue, the shift is often immediate. It's a reset.

How Often? Once or twice a week during the darker months is enough for most people to maintain mood and energy. Some clients book it as a regular ritual. Others drop in when they feel the grey creeping in.
